ROORK’S WING TIPS
–20
The holiday season is upon us and we all wish that we had an extra week or so
in the shopping season. One way to shorten your shopping time is to give all
of the birder's on your list a Roork's Gift Certificate.
When I purchased my farm my mother gave me a bird feeder to set up on my new
property. I put it up near where I figured I would build the house. It
still stands there today feeding a wonderful variety of birds. Every time I
look at that feeder I think of my mother and the pleasure we have shared
watching the birds. My mother has just moved in with me and now she can
enjoy her gift on a daily basis. The gift of a feeder continues giving joy
long after the holiday season has ended.
The following are gift suggestions for birders on your shopping list: for
new birders, a beginners or advanced bird book is a wonderful present or a
basic feeder and a gift certificate for seed or a Niger Seed feeder and seed. Other options are a long suet feeder that holds two cakes. This is designed
for woodpeckers. A platform feeder will bring ground feeders such as,
cardinals, juncos, towhees and white-throated sparrows, up to window level
where you can get a good view. If your birders already have feeders you can
give them a specialty feeder such as a peanut feeder. Window feeders are
great entertainment for children and shut-ins as well as for the rest of us.
Seeing birds this close adds a new dimension to bird watching.
Birdbath heaters are near the top of my Christmas List. Of course I also
want some more platform feeders and maybe a few more Upside Down Niger Seed
feeders.. When it comes to birds my list is endless.
Let me close by wishing you a safe and wonderful holiday season and a new
year filled with exciting birding adventures.
